Climb to the second highest mountain in Venezuela which has an altitude of 4.942 meters above sea level.
In this trip, you will go by mysterious cloud forest, stark and hauntingly quiet desert páramo.
The rope and harness ascent to the top challenges both your high-elevation mountaineering skills and your personal courage.
The climb to the top of Humboldt’s glacier will require crampons and pick axes.
The rewards are extraordinary memories!
Day 1: Mérida
Early in the morning, at around 8:30 am, we will drive from Mérida to La Mucuy (2,000 m) in the Sierra Nevada National Park. The path goes up into the cloud forest - area of dense vegetation, imposing ferns, bromeliads, bamboo, trees covered with a variety of other plants, mosses, hanging vines, and an abundance of winged creatures. On this segment of the trek, we will go by several streams and small waterfalls and we will camp at cool alpine lake called Coromoto Lake (2130 m - 3200 m / 9 Km / 3.30 - 5.30 hrs hiking). Overnight in tents.
Day 2: Mérida
Early in the morning we will continue our journey and head off to Laguna Verde (4,000 m) named for its brilliant emerald color and located at the base of the impressive Humboldt (4,992 m) and Bonplaud Peaks (4,890 m). The way to Laguna Verde is steeper and rockier than the previous day, and the scenery is much more open as you follow the valley upwards. Today we will set-up camp at Laguna del Suero (4,200 m) which is nestled in the tranquil surroundings of these infamous peaks (3200 m - 4000 m/ 6 Km / 3.00 - 5.00 hrs hiking). Overnight in tents.
Day 3: Mérida
After a warm breakfast, we start climbing up a steep rocky slope called “Morrena” and once we reach the glacier, we’ll put our crampons on. We’ll enjoy excellent panoramic views as we cross the glacier. As we reach the Humboldt’s summit (4,945 m), you will be blessed with an incredible view of the Colombian Andes and Pico Bolivar (only 5 km away from). We’ll return down to Laguna del Suero to relax, reflect on our Andean ascent, and camp for the night (4000 m - 4942 m/ 6 Km / 4.30 -7.30 hrs hiking). Overnight in tents.
Day 4: Mérida
We start our trek back to Coromoto Lake and enjoy a great picnic at this serene lake. After lunch, we begin our decent to La Mucuy where our jeep will be waiting for us to bring us to Mérida. END OF SERVICES.
