Los Roques National Park Scuba Diving

Trip Highlights:
  • Los Roques offers little known reefs with huge amounts of marine life, soft corals and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish.
  • Diving is spectacular. You find a great variety of coral fauna and flora where there are 200-foot vertical walls, pinnacles and fabulous underwater caves filled with forest of multicoloured sponges and black coral formations.
  • Along the flanks of submerged mountains, snappers, groupers, jacks, creole wrasse, barracudas and shark can be observed cruising along, whilst rays gently glide over the sandy bottoms.
  • There are also a few shipwrecks to explore and a biological research station which shelters a turtle breeding centre.
     


Day 1: Los Roques National Park - Caracas Airport

Fly to Los Roques National Park in the morning. Upon arrival at the main island "El Gran Roque" there will be a travel assistant waiting for you to take you to your posada. After you have checked-in, explore the island or take an excursion to either Franciski or Madriski keys (15 minutes away from the main island). Overnight at a posada.

Note: The excursion to either Franciski or Madriski keys can be arranged at an additional cost. Check with your travel agent for more information.

Day 2: Los Roques National Park

Spend the day diving at one of the following locations (two dives per day). Prior to your departure (9:00 A.M.), the diving location will be discussed and agreed with your diving instructor/guide:

Solapa de Rabusqui: after a 15 minute boat ride s/w form El Roque we find La Solapa de Rabusqui.This is a special reef formation like lapping, with an amazing visibility, where we often see, tarpons, turtles an sharks.

Barrera Arrecifal Sur: a primitive and protected area of the south barrel reef, where we have at least 50 different sites, from Boca de Cote to Cayo sal, with wall up to 1.500 meters.We can fine caves, and the most beautiful coral formations, considered one of the best reefs in the Carebean . It´s common to find sharks, turtles, and big schools of jacks, snappers and much more. To reach this place we have to ride at least 40 minutes by boat.

La Guaza: a rocky formation, located very close, just 5 minutes by boat, There are 3 pinnacles, with depths of 103 feet. There is wonderful visibility for all kinds of pelagic, like barracudas, groupers, snappers, turtles, eels, and much more. It is one of the most famous spots in Los Roques.

La Piedra Ahogada: a place very similar to La Guaza. We can do deep and night diving here. We can often see jacks, barracudas, eels, and great variety of reef fish and rays. From this dive we can reach the cave of La Buceadora.

La Buceadora: with similar features, but on the other side of El Gran Roque, here we can reach the tarpons arch (Arco de los sábalos) , and their caves. There is a very interesting cavern with 2 domes where we can do very interesting penetrations, also on this dive we can visit a small three year old sailboat wreck at about 90 feet.

Return to the main island at 2:00 P.M. Overnight at a posada.

Day 3: Los Roques National Park

Day 4: Los Roques National Park - Caracas Airport

Take an afternoon flight back to Caracas. End of our services.

Special Needs: Those who have special needs need to let us know in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements (e.g. allergy to specific foods, etc).

Important Information:
  • Participants should be qualified divers with a recognized professional body such as PADI, BSAC, NAUI, etc. A certificate or C-card will need to be presented to dive operators on location.
  • Any dive packages booked through Turpial Travel, including specific diving courses, cannot be changed upon arrival at your destination.
  • There is no refund for any unused dives.
  • Please check with your travel assistant the equipment that is and is not included in your package.
  • It is the individual's responsibility to be medical fit to scuba dive in the conditions presented.
  • We recommend that a refresher is taken in a pool if you have not been diving in the last 6 months. We reserve the right to charge for a refresher should there be uncertainty regarding your ability and its impact upon safety and the underwater environment. 
  • All regulations stipulated by the recognised diving authority (e.g PADI, BSAC, etc) and as part of your insurance, must be strictly adhered to. 
  • Turpial Travel dos not schedule dives for the day prior to destination departure.
  • Diving programmes are subject to constraints of weather and other conditions. Dive itineraries need to be flexible to adapt to changes in diving sites or suspension of diving, for which no refund can be given.

  1. Trips extensions can be arrange for any of our tours at an additional cost.
  2. Allow for USD 20 per day for meals not included and/or additional personal expenses
How to Book?

I.             I. BOOK ONLINE: Start by filling out YOUR TRIP COST section. Each itinerary has a trip price range. This section will allow you to quote an exact price by filling out Questions 1-4. The price will be determined by: the dates you choose to travel, the number of people traveling with you, and the type of service you require throughout your trip. After filling out Questions 1-4, you will choose between two options:

Option A - Book Now: If you agree with the price and you DO NOT need to make any changes to the itinerary and/or the departure dates, you will press the BOOK NOW button which will take you through a series of steps:

* Step 1: Enter your Details & Flight Information – Here you will have to fill out the passenger details, contact information and international flight information. If you still haven’t booked your international flight, no worries, the system will allow you to request a quote through us. 

* Step 2: Pre/Post Hotels & Transfers in Caracas - Need extra nights in Caracas before or after your trip? If you do, you will need to fill out this section. If you don’t you will skip this section and proceed to Step 3. 

* Step 3: Make a donation? – Turpial Travel is a member of several organizations that protect the environment, study endangered species and promote sustainable tourism. We work in partnership with Fundación AndígenA to forge a direct link between the economic benefits from tourism and the biodiversity protection. This section will allow you to make a donation to this caused if interested. 

* Step 4: Is Everything Correct?  Review your Booking Information – This section will confirm key information needed to proceed with your booking.  

* Step 5: Payment Information – Last step! Here you proceed to pay and book your trip. Payment is processed through credit card only.

When filling out sections 1-5 you will received two emails from us. The first email will let you know that a personal account has been created for you. The account will allow you to interact with your assigned travel agent, update your profile, review trip details, and upload/download important pre-departure information. The email will also tell you the name of the Travel Assistant that has been assigned to you. The second email will confirm your payment once it has been processed.

We recommend using Option A since it was designed to save our clients time and money!

Option B - Personalize my Trip: If you need to adapt the itinerary to your specific needs (e.g. make changes to the itinerary and/or the pre-departure dates), you will fill out Questions 1-4 in “Your Trip Cost” section and press the PERSONALIZE MY TRIP button. Next, you will proceed to fill out some basic information needed to process your request. Once you submit this information, you will receive an email letting you know that your enquiry has been sent to the Department of Sales & Reservations and a Travel Assistant will contact you shortly.
